Entries for the US Open pick 'em will open sometime this evening - the draw is at 17.00 BST, so it'll just depend on how long they take to publish it and whether I'm around when they do - doubtless they'll wait until the moment I've given up on them and gone to have dinner! :wink:

Approximate timetable

The approximate timetable for the US Open pick 'em is:

Thu. 26 Aug 16.00 GMT (5 pm UK) - main draw takes place - done

Thu. 26 Aug evening (UK) - main draw available on the entry form at http://www.freewebs.com/britishtennis/competitions.html[/b] - entries now open @ 18.30 BST on Friday

Sun. 29 Aug by early morning (UK) - qualifiers placed in the draw on the entry form. Qualifying is actually scheduled to end on Friday, but with some QR1 matches still not played due to the inclement weather, it clearly isn't likely to end until Saturday, and even that's only if the weather is better from here on in, so early Sunday is now my best guess of when I'm likely to be able to place qualifiers on the entry form. qualifiers now placed @ 02.30 BST on Sunday

Mon. 30 Aug 15.00 GMT (4 pm UK / 11 am US Eastern) - entries close

Emails appropriate to the notification option selected by past entrants will be sent out to those who asked for them, but the earliest notification of when entries are open, qualifiers are placed, etc, is likely to be on the BOTB Twitter feed at http://twitter.com/botb1

Entry limit

Despite the long entry period, the US Open BOTB had the smallest entry of any of the slam pick 'ems last year (probably because there are so many other competitions going on for this event and possibly because lots of potential British entrants tend to be away over the bank holiday period) so we are extremely unlikely to hit the 500 entrant limit this time.

BOTP: US Open 2010

I am just trying to be organised with this to let you know that there will be another BOTP for the US Open - and again hopefully an enjoyable joint competition with am/jm.com and CC.

I am hoping that those of you who have played this before will take part once again! It promises to be quite an interesting tourmanent without Serena Williams busy threatening line judges this time, though sadly without Justine Henin.

General Rules

For those who have not played this before, here is a little bit of background on it. If you have played steven's pick 'em for the ATP side of the tour, then this predictions competition is exactly the same - but is for the WTA side of the tour. You make all of your predictions before the tournament start and watch the female equivalents of Gasquet, Nalby et al get knocked out in round 2 when you had picked them to make the last 8 or better!

Or something like that.

Each player gets a point for each correct round 1 prediction, 2 points for each correct round 2 prediction, etc, etc. At the end of each day, there is a table of results for everyone, both in terms of the days predictions only and in the tournament so far.

There is usually some commentary to accompany these tables. I may write this, or a guest writer might. It is usually someone else taking part in the competition.

BOTP Background

This pick 'em has now been going for 2 years (since the Beijing Olympics) but is only into its 7th slam. am/ jm.com folk have been involved in all of these slams, but greater involvement probably started in Wimbledon last year.

I have been thinking that there have been a few close seconds from am/jm.com folk in BOTP, but no winner from these boards, as yet. Could this be the slam where that duck is broken - both for these boards, and for a certain ATP player??

Taking Part

The process of taking part is usually to download an Excel file from this thread. You will then complete the draw in the same way that you do for BOTB. There are instructions in the Excel file - so even if you haven't played BOTB and are new to the whole caboodle, then you should still be able to take part.

For those of you who are also members of CC - you will of course be able to post your results on the relevant thread.

For those of you who are not - you can e-mail the completed excel file to the following e-mail address:

You could also copy and paste your predictions onto this thread. All of these options are fine.

General

This is usually quite a small predictions competition - nowhere near as big as BOTB - we usually have about 25-30 people taking part - the more the merrier, of course - and even if the number were a little below that, then it should still be good fun.

If you have any thoughts about this, then please either add them to this thread, or feel free to pm me if you have any queries.

I should have the entry form made available on Friday-ish - whenever the main qualifiers have been placed - which hopefully should leave quite a nice period of time to make those predictions. I am aware of how many other predictions comps many people also take part in, as I am usually taking part on those too!

the rules for top five seeds lastman standing ... put in order the way you think the top five seeds will fall


first top five seed to fall correct = 100 points

2nd top five seed to fall =50 points

3rd top five seed to fall = 50 points

4th top five seed to fall =50 points

last top five seed to fall =100 points .

if your last two named reach final =100 points bonus

if your lastman named wins final = 101 points bonus


you have to pick a joker who is not a top EIGHT seed player everytime your joker wins you get 20 points ,if he gets to final you get 50 points bonus and if he wins final another 50 points bonus

any player not finishing a match will be deemed to have went out in that round

please note as usual it is the round that the player goes out that counts and if two players go out in same round you will get the points for both in other words if your first and second to go out picks both go

out in same round you get the points for both .

davids wildcard
there is as promised a further wild card choice to be picked ,the wild card player must be a player ranked 70 OR OVER [atp ranking ] david has formed the points system for the wildcard

the bigger the ranking number the more points wildcard will get each time he wins

WILDCARD SCORING SYSTEM = WILDCARD PICK BETWEEN 70 -80 [ATP RANKING ] 5 POINTS FOR EVERY MATCH WON ,


W/CARD PICK 81 90 [ATP RANKING ] =8 POINTS EVERY MATCH WON


W/CARD PICK 91-110 [ATP RANKING ] =10 POINTS EVERY MATCH WON


W/CARD 111 AND OVER [ATP RANKING] = 15 POINTS FOR EVERY MATCH WON .


in the event of joint winners the following t/break decider comes into play = first will be the person whos lastman out named does best 2nd t/break will be the person whos joker gets the most points .

Deadline 4pm BST on Monday 30th August.

Its good fun and it counts for COC. Basically you have to "select TEN men and TEN women tennis players from a budget of £50 million for each category." E.g. Andy'll cost you £9.5m, Bally or Anne £3.25m. Later the Qualifiers/WCs wil be added & I think they just cost a mere £1m. You can edit your teams up to the deadline.

Dream Team 2010 Scoring System (copied below). Players within a dream team score
- a point for every game they win in either the men's or women's singles events
- 10 bonus points for a straight sets win
- 5 points "Bagel Bonus" for winning a set 6-0
- An "Underdog Bonus" of 5 points for each round an unseeded player reaches from the fourth round onwards (last 16) and 5 points for every seeded player between 17-32 which makes the Quarter Finals onwards.
